It appears there will be some changes in Premier Boxing Champions in the coming year. With widespread reports of Al Haymon’s brainchild blowing through investor money at a frightening pace — by paying high purses for sub-par fights — at least some have been led to believe those days are over.
In this video interview with FightHype, Andre Berto says all PBC fighters have been put on notice that in 2017 nothing will be coming easy - the best will have to fight each other.
“We got a big 2017 coming up. Everybody on the PBC card got that phone call that let us know that everbody’s fighting everybody, ain’t no cakewalks next year. And I think this last card they just had [Cuellar-Mares] was the first installment of it.
“As you can see, the Charlo boys fought, and Mares fought - you know, these are the fights people have been wanting to see for a while and they’re making them happen. If we want to keep getting paid how we’re getting paid now we gotta...I mean they putting us in the fire so it’s either you gonna get burnt, or you gonna rise to the occasion.“
If this actually comes off as stated, it should be great news for fans since Haymon has tons of notable talent that should be squaring off with one another. Danny Garcia has already been lined up to unify with Keith Thurman, and hopefully there’s plenty more where that came from. Here’s hoping...
