The news of Canelo-Khan has sent shock waves throughout the sport -- nobody really expected it, yet here we are. Even promoter Eddie Hearn, who had been hoping to make a big summer fight between Amir Khan and Kell Brook, admits that the news has also caught him by surprise, particularly with Khan being willing to face a much bigger man in Canelo.
"I got the news about Canelo v Khan at the weekend and I'm surprised at the fight," Hearn exclusively told World Boxing News.
"I think Canelo will be around 170 pounds on fight night and Amir has only just moved to 147. I think Canelo will be much too heavy."
So now Hearn has to look at other potential options for Kell Brook after he satisfies his mandatory obligation with Kevin Bizier. And Hearn is looking at two other welterweight titleholders in Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia.
"I'm disappointed we couldn't deliver Brook v Khan for the British public but you can't force another man to fight.
"We were close, but now after Bizier we must fight one of the other champions," said Hearn.
Which champion would you rather see Kell Brook take on first, Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman?
