A fight between IBF featherweight titleholder Lee Selby and mandatory challenger Eric Hunter could be headed to the O2 Arena in London, after Selby's camp won a purse bid for the fight. Dan Rafael reports that the fight could wind up on the Charles Martin-Anthony Joshua undercard on April 9.
Selby (22-1, 8 KO) won the IBF belt from Evgeny Gradovich last May, then made a successful defense against Fernando Montiel in October. Hunter (21-3, 11 KO) has won four in a row and six of his last eight, with both losses in that stretch coming via disqualification. Last year, the Philly native beat Rene Alvarado and Antonio Escalante.
Tom Brown's TGB Promotions, associated with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions brand, won the purse bid at $302,990, easily beating out Main Events, which bid $51,000 for the rights to the fight. Selby will get an 85-15 split of the purse. The two sides have 90 days to hash out the specifics.
