Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is reportedly frustrated by HBO's lack on interest in his proposed doubleheader card where he would like to feature Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters and Viktor Postol vs. Adrian Granados. Apparently HBO hasn't bitten on the pitch, much to Arum's chagrin, so Arum is now saying he's taking his pitch to rival network Showtime.
Arum certainly hasn't had the nicest things to say about the new HBO Sports boss Peter Nelson in recent weeks, but he certainly hasn't had good things to say about Showtime Sports boss Stephen Espinoza in the past either, which has this new play reeking of irony. For the past several years all of Arum's cards on premium network television have been televised through HBO while he has harshly criticized Espinoza, but it seems now Nelson is the new man in his crosshairs.
With basically all of Showtime's recent fights coming courtesy of Al Haymon, it will be interesting to see how much, if any, crow Arum will have to eat in order to gain any real consideration from Espinoza after all of the public ridicule directed his way from the promoter. Hopefully Arum has enough sense to at least pick out a nice Hallmark card for Espinoza. Nothing says "I'm sorry, let's do business again" like a beautifully poetic card.
