The planned EBU title fight between Kubrat Pulev and Dereck Chisora, which we passed along word of last month, is now official, as the two are set to meet on May 7th in Hamburg's Barclaycard Arena.
The fight has been christened an IBF eliminator, despite there already being a planned eliminator bout between Joseph Parker and Carlos Takam in the works. The Sauerland press release promises undercard details "shortly."
Pulev (22-1, 12 KO) has beaten George Arias and Maurice Harris since his one-sided loss to Wladimir Klitschko back in November of 2014. Chisora (25-5, 17 KO) has also been on something of a recovery tour following his ill-fated rematch with Tyson Fury, winning five straight over the likes of Peter Erdos (479th on Boxrec), Jakov Gospic (569th), and Andras Csomor (186th).
Pulev definitely seems like he's got more left in him and will enjoy a three-inch height advantage. While Chisora can spoil like nobody's business when he's at his best, it remains to be seen whether he's even remotely close to his best at this point. "The Cobra" by decision seems like the comfortable pick.
