Vitor Ortiz and Andre Berto's previously-announced rematch is now official for April 30th at the StubHub Center, headlining the PBC's next FOX show. A pair of veteran vs. young gun matchups round out the main card as Edwin Rodriguez and Fernando Montiel take on Thomas Williams Jr. and Jorge Lara, respectively.
Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KO) was last seen winning one of the wildest fights in recent memory wherein he and Michael Seals traded five knockdowns over three violent rounds. He's won four straight since his loss to Andre Ward, though Williams (19-1, 13 KO) is likely a tougher test than any of them. Williams suffered a major hit to his momentum in 2014 when Gabriel Campillo beat him into submission, but has bounced back somewhat with consecutive wins over Michael Gbenga and Umberto Savigne.
Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KO) won ten of eleven after his near-decapitation at the hands of Nonito Donaire, putting him in line to challenge for Lee Selby's featherweight title. Selby took a wide decision win over the former three-division champion, who has elected to stay at 126 to face Lara (27-0-2, 19 KO). "Pilon" was last seen scrapping with Jesus Rojas on the undercard of Austin Trout vs. Joey Hernandez until repeated headbutts led to a technical draw.
None of these fights are likely to send tremors through the division, but they all look fun; should be an interesting show at the very least.
