A source close to the negotiations tells RingTV that Showtime is in the midst of trying to package a junior middleweight title fight between Jermall Charlo and Austin Trout alongside a replay of Deontay Wilder-Alexander Povetkin, a show that would be televised on May 21st. Charlo-Trout has not yet been officially announced, but both camps have approved the fight.
Promoter Alexander Ryabinksi, who won the purse bid for Wilder-Povetkin, said he wants to stage the fight in Russia. If that goes through, the fight would be aired Stateside on Saturday afternoon. Showtime would then replay the heavyweight title fight on Saturday night alongside this proposed junior middleweight battle between Charlo and Trout -- who may be scheduled to fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn according to the source.
If Showtime pulls this off, it will only add to their big plans for this Spring as announced a couple of weeks ago.
