Top lightweight prospect Felix Verdejo will return to action as planned on April 16, headlining an edition of UniMás' Solo Boxeo Tecate, and may have an opponent for a June return, too, if all goes according to plan.
Verdejo (20-0, 14 KO) will face Mexico's Daniel Evangelista (18-6-2, 14 KO) on April 11 at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The 22-year-old Verdejo, an Olympian in 2012, has plenty of experience on the UniMás cards, but the bigger target is a June 11 fight on HBO, which would be his second on the network.
Verdejo, who defeated William Silva in his February 27 debut on HBO, may face Jose Felix Jr (33-1-1, 25 KO) at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, in a show that Top Rank is hoping will be headlined by Vasyl Lomachenko vs Nicholas Walters, though that fight is not yet official.
Felix, 23, would represent an interesting step for Verdejo if that fight comes together. His only loss came in 2014 in a competitive bout with Bryan Vasquez, and he's won six straight since then. Verdejo-Felix would obviously be a huge opportunity for Felix, and is on paper a good step up for Verdejo.
