WBO middleweight tilist Billy Joe Saunders says he's ready to see what he's made of against the division's top dog in Gennady Golovkin -- after his upcoming title defense against Max Bursak of course. Saunder's makes this proclamation just a couple of months after essentially rejecting the fight by pricing himself out of a Golovkin unification bout in January.
"I want Gennady Golokvin. I want to see what I'm made of. Let's face it, Golovkin is the best out there so let's chuck me in there," Saunders told Paul Dempsey on Saturday night.
Saunders then offered up his thoughts on Canelo Alvarez fighting below the full middleweight limit of 160lbs.
"I'm not a catchweight fighter. I don't believe in catchweights. If you fight at 154, 155 then you're a light-middleweight. If you win the title at 160 pounds then you can call yourself the middleweight champion."
As a middleweight titlist, I'd sure love to see Saunders take on another one of the division's champions, and not only mention him when they both have other fights scheduled...but that's just me. Saunders will defend his WBO title against Max Bursak on April 30th.
