It looks like the date and place have been secured for the Leo Santa Cruz-Carl Frampton fight as the two will meet on July 30th at the Barclays center in Brooklyn, New York, Showtime tells ESPN. Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) will be moving one division north to meet Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) at featherweight - one fight removed from his 122lb title unification against Scott Quigg in February.
Although Frampton's move is arguably a blatant duck to steer clear of Guillermo Rigondeaux, the man no one wants to fight, Frampton won't take a ton of flack since this upcoming bout with Santa Cruz as it's still a good match-up on paper. The good news is that this fight isn't being drummed up to be yet another PPV, so you can catch the bout on regular Showtime.
Santa Cruz won a vacant featherweight title by beating Abner Mares last August and then went on to stop Kiko Martinez in five rounds earlier this year.
