Gennady Golovkin's Big Drama Show remains a draw, even when the matchup isn't terribly dramatic. According to K2 Promotions, "GGG's" Saturday showdown with IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade drew more than 1.3 million viewers to HBO, the network's highest boxing ratings of 2016.
The co-feature, which saw Roman Gonzalez take apart McWilliams Arroyo over twelve rounds, scraped past the million mark as well.
Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO) was his usual destructive self against the overmatched Wade (18-1, 12 KO), whom he dropped three times in two rounds for his twenty-second-consecutive stoppage victory. Gonzalez (45-0, 38 KO), meanwhile, saw his own knockout streak come to an end against the game Arroyo (16-3, 14 KO), though he managed to dominate nonetheless.
If Golovkin managed to produce numbers like this against a relative unknown without a hope in hell, just imagine what he could do against Canelo. Make sure you enjoy imagining it, because it looks like that's about all you're going to get.
