Lee Haskins retained his IBF bantamweight title today in Cardiff, Wales, outclassing Ivan Morales over 12 rounds, winning on scores of 118-110, 118-110, and 119-108. BLH had the fight 117-111 for Haskins.
Our card saw Morales (29-2, 17 KO) about level through the first seven rounds of the bout, with Haskins ahead by a point at that stage, but the British titleholder really performed well down the stretch, and separated himself nicely from the younger Mexican challenger.
Haskins (33-3, 14 KO) used Morales' slow feet against him, moving around and attacking from odd angles, and as the fight wore on, he was more and more easily able to control the tempo, as nothing Morales tried was really all that effective. He was just too slow and too basic, and never made a serious adjustment.
Haskins now likely moves on to a rematch with countryman Stuart Hall (20-4-2, 7 KO), who won an IBF eliminator against Rodrigo Guerrero on April 16. Haskins beat Hall by decision in July 2012, when the two met for the European title.
