With news breaking that this weekend's heavyweight title defense between Deontay Wilder and Alexander Povetkin going down in flames, things are pretty bare on the news front. But one interesting story surfaced over the weekend - trainer Virgil Hunter turns out to be R&B singer Keyshia Cole's long-lost father. The singer first acknowledged the news on her Instagram page a few days ago.
We all know Hunter as the notable boxing trainer for fighters like Andre Ward, Amir Khan, and Andre Berto -- but I surely never expected him to turn out to be the father of the world famous songstress. Cole has been prominently featured in a couple of reality television shows focusing on her life and family after she was put up for adoption by her then drug addicted mother, Frankie Lons. In one episode of BET's "Keyshia Cole: All In," which aired last year, here's what Lons had to say on the circumstances surrounding Cole's adoption.
"I had started going back and forth to jail for miscellaneous stuff," said Lons. "Things that come with being a prostitute. My mom talked me into letting her best friend, Yvonne Cole, keep Keyshia until I decided what to do with myself."
Despite their lengthy time apart, congrats to Cole for finding her father after 34 long years - and congrats to Hunter on finding his daughter. Best of luck to both with their reunion.
