Golden Boy Live - Gomez vs Sosa: Live stream and round by round coverage

Eddie Gomez takes on John Karl Sosa tonight in a welterweight main event, streaming right here on BLH on Ring TV Live.

Tonight's live stream starts at 8:30 p.m. ET, and BLH will pick up live coverage beginning at 10 p.m. ET, with two fights in the welterweight and lightweight divisions.

In the welterweight main event, Eddie Gomez (18-1, 11 KO) faces John Karl Sosa (13-1, 6 KO) in a 10-round bout. This is Gomez's first fight since signing a new deal with Golden Boy in February, and his first fight since last April, so he's coming in off of the longest layoff of his pro career. He's won two straight following a loss to Francisco Santana in 2014. Sosa is coming off of a loss to Alan Sanchez.

The lightweight co-feature, also a 10-round bout, will see Fidel Maldonado Jr (21-3, 18 KO) take on Art Hovhanissyan (17-2-2, 9 KO). Maldonado has won two straight since a wild brawl with and loss to Amir Imam in January 2015. Hovhannisyan hasn't fought in nearly two years, last seen in a July 2014 split decision loss to Jonathan Maicelo.

ROUND BY ROUND

EDDIE GOMEZ vs JOHN KARL SOSA

Round 1: Gomez showing off his speed in counters early. Some body shots. Sosa coming forward, though, looking to pressure. Gomez's speed an obvious weapon here, but Sosa is staying with him and doing OK so far. Good matchup so far. Gomez doesn't look rusty physically. Gomez 10-9

Round 2: Gomez's speed still an obvious difference in this fight. Right hand lands, and he's out before Sosa can get back. Another good right in close. Sosa really is showing a lot of determination, though. Uppercut from Gomez. Sosa landing a couple shots, including an uppercut, and Gomez fires back. Gomez 10-9, 20-18

Round 3: Gomez starting to take fuller control. He's just a better fighter, but Sosa is hanging in. Gomez 10-9, 30-27

Round 4: Sosa lands some good rights this round, and this is his best round. He might have also won one of the other rounds, so this could be even. He's taking shots well, too. Sosa 10-9, Gomez 39-37

Round 5: This is a competitive fight so far. Impressed with Sosa, really, and Gomez is fighting well, but Sosa is there with him. Gomez gets the better of him this round, landing a hard uppercut and doing some nice work. Gomez 10-9, 49-46

Round 6: Sosa still active here, keeping the pace high, and Gomez is landing sharp shots himself. And he's got some good body shots mixed in. I liked him this round, but it's still a really competitive fight. Gomez 10-9, 59-55

Round 7: You could easily have this closer than I do. There are rounds to give Sosa if you like his activity or don't see Gomez's work as effective as I do. Like this round, you could give this one to Sosa. Sosa 10-9, Gomez 68-65

Round 8: Sosa with a couple good shots, then another right hand, and another right hand. Gomez with some TV gym work. Ha-ha-huh-huh! Nothing on it but it looked...something. Gomez looks tired. More TV gym work. Huh-huh-huh-huh! He's trying to fake energy right now. Sosa 10-9, Gomez 77-75

Round 9: I really think Sosa is doing the better work as we wind down here, and he might wind up with a very good argument for the win. Gomez does OK this round, but I still like Sosa's aggression and lead right hands. Sosa 10-9, Gomez 86-85

Round 10: Sosa talking shit this round. Landing rights, goes southpaw, lands a left. Gomez still mostly trying to fake energy when he does throw. He's zapped. Good right again from Sosa. Right hand again. Sosa finishes strong. Sosa 10-9,95-95

FIDEL MALDONADO JR vs ART HOVHANNISYAN

Round 1: Maldonado coming forward to start, southpaw stance and flicking his jab out. Left hand up top is short, testing his range a little. Hovhannisyan unleashes a right, picked off. Maldonado lands a couple shots on a potentially rusty Maldonado. Both guys still probing into the final minute, but Art is now coming forward and throwing a lot of rights, landing a couple. Another little right from Art. Calm before the storm opener. Maldonado 10-9

Round 2: Maldonado landing the straight left again early this round. Little trade, Art gets back out. Hovhannisyan may have hurt Maldonado with a right hand there, but Maldonado hangs on, resets, and is back throwing. Decent little fight so far, as anticipated. Hovhannisyan doesn't look too rusty, and Maldonado is Maldonado. Maldonado 10-9, 20-18

Round 3: Pace picking up a bit more again this round, and Maldonado starting to target the body a bit more. But Art landing some counters, too. He's coming forward now, throws a lead right. Body shot from Hovhannisyan strays a hair low, referee reckons. Hovhannisyan with a hook. Hovhannisyan 10-9, Maldonado 29-28

Round 4: Maldonado really landing some good body shots. Art pressing forward through it all, and he's having a good round here, landing a lot of right hands, doing a little damage, and he looks better marching toward Maldonado than waiting to counter. Decent fight! Hovhannisyan 10-9, 38-38

Round 5: Hovhannisyan continuing to do some good work here, and he may have the momentum. Maldonado seeming a little flustered at moments with Art coming forward and bringing the fight to him. Hovhannisyan 10-9, 48-47

Round 6: Maldonado trying to take the tempo back a little bit more, but Hovhannisyan continues to make it tough for him. He's doing better here with the range than he has the last couple of rounds. Nice bounce-back round for Fidel. Maldonado 10-9, 57-57

Round 7: Maldonado trying to fight a bit more clever, trying to bait Art a little more. Hovhannisyan picks it up a bit more, though, and takes the advantage back in the second half of the round, closing pretty strong. This has been interesting. Hovhannisyan 10-9, 67-66

Round 8: Both guys loading up on their power shots. Slower pace now, though not a slow pace. Hard left from Maldonado, and Hovhannisyan goes to the canvas, saying he was pushed, but referee rules a knockdown. There was definitely a good left, but the knockdown was not immediate. Could be a pivotal swing. Yeah, you know what, that was a knockdown. Art took a knee after getting stunned on a left, and that was before Maldonado did anything that could be called a shove. Maldonado 10-8, 76-75

Round 9: Some more warnings for low blows. Hovhannisyan looking tired. And Maldonado loses a point! That's big, erases the lost point from the knockdown. Good round from Art, too, so this is effectively 10-8 for him if the judges agree with me. Hovhannisyan 10-9, -1 for Maldonado, Hovhannisyan 85-84

Round 10: Gonna be interesting to see how this fight gets scored. Hovhannisyan really working in this round, Maldonado firing back a good bit. Good little fight here, but I'm going with Hovhannisyan. Hovhannisyan 10-9, 95-93
