Not only did Chris Eubank Jr. recently sign a new promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, he's looking to take on perhaps the sport's most avoided fighter in Gennady Golovkin. Yes, Eubank Jr. has just been added to the Joshua-Breazeale undercard where he'll face Tom Doran, but once that's over with he'll be looking to tangle with the Kazakh Killer. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn affirms these intentions...
"My instructions from the Eubanks are clear: make the Golovkin fight.
"I want to get this message across: we are ready to commit to a deal [to fight]."
Chris Eubank Sr., whose strained relationship with Hearn played a part Eubank Jr. splitting with Matchroom in the past, says that a Golovkin fight is a necessary precursor for the promoter keeping Jr. long-term.
"You've got to get Golovkin, then we may have a long-term deal."
"I don't think Golovkin will take the fight, but you must make that fight. I don't see how, by my mathematics, he can win."
Ummmm....What?! I don't think any of us need to know an ounce of arithmetic to see how Golovkin could win that fight. He would undoubtedly be a massive favorite to put a hurtin' on Eubank Jr. But props to Jr. & Co. if they're indeed genuine about seeking out a fight most don't want...*cough* Canelo *cough*.
