Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs wasted no time in getting rid of an overmatched opponent today in London, setting up his fight later this year against David Haye, should Haye win as anticipated against Arnold Gjergjaj later on the card at the O2 Arena.

Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KO) was matched with Argentina's Emilio Ezequiel Zarate, who took a knee on an early shot and was then knocked out with a left to the solar plexus in just 2:22. Zarate (20-17-3, 11 KO) was no match for Briggs, took the fight on short notice, and was simply there to get smashed. He did the job admirably.

Briggs gave one of his familiar interviews to Dave, the UK TV network carrying the bouts.

"I'm 44 years old, I have the first round knockouts in the history of boxing for heavyweight champions. I come out, people see me breathing like a dragon. I'm breathing fire! It's exciting, champ! Look at me! Look at me!"

After more statements along these lines, Briggs concluded with, "I'm gonna fight until I'm 50. I'm the king of the first round knockouts! I'm breathing fire! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!"
