Amir Khan has given up his white whale in Floyd Mayweather and is heading back to shore. Well, really he's heading into a fight against Canelo Alvarez where he's a sizable underdog. But should he win, and Mayweather come back to boxing, Khan says he'll be the one not giving Mayweather a shot. Ahhhh, the taste of sweet delusional revenge...
"Do I want to fight Floyd Mayweather with all the messing around he's given me? He messed me around a lot so I don't think I'd take that fight. He messed me around, so I'd probably treat him the same way."
Khan reasons that Floyd is probably already beginning to miss the limelight and is therefore dropping hints at a return to keep himself in the headlines. If that's indeed the case, it's working like a thing of beauty.
"Floyd's probably missing not having his picture on the MGM. He must see my picture and Canelo's picture and think, 'People have forgotten about me'. As soon as you say you're retired, we do forget about the people who say that.
"Mayweather's feeling that now, he's feeling like no one's talking about him, that he's old news, and maybe that's why he's trying to get everyone supporting him again by saying 'I want to make a comeback'. Whatever Mayweather says, let him say it."
Although Khan chased both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao for years, his decision to sit on the sidelines for long stretches of time while he ultimately missed out on both fights caused some people to question the advice he's been receiving from his team.
Khan, though, believes that finally landing this big fight against Canelo Alvarez vindicates the trust he's put in his them - saying they've kept him on the right track all along.
