In what can charitably described as an odd choice for a main event, former Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz Jr. and former lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez helm Premier Boxing Champions' next trip to San Antonio on May 28th.
No other fights have yet been announced.
Both Diaz (17-1, 8 KO) and Vazquez (35-5, 13 KO) got somewhat raw deals their last times out, Diaz settling for a majority decision loss to Lamont Peterson in a headlining turn and Vazquez dropping a horribly-judged unanimous decision to Algenis Mendez.
Discounting entertainment value, and I am well aware of the absurdity of that statement, it's a well-matched fight. Diaz proved he can hang with top fighters at super lightweight and Vazquez, at just twenty-nine, is still an enormous pain in the ass for anyone he fights.
You might think it's daft to put "El Titere" in a headliner. You might think that nobody in their right mind would willingly watch him fight again, even for free.
