Canelo Alvarez retained his middleweight championship as expected on Saturday night, demolishing Amir Khan with a thunderous right hand in the sixth round. Check out the highlights above, courtesy ESPN and HBO Sports.
You can't see the knockout, because it's too precious for the world to see just yet if they didn't order the pay-per-view, but you can see Khan (31-4, 19 KO) having some success early on using his speed and his legs to stay away from Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KO). In all reality, Khan did as well as could have been expected. He and Virgil Hunter had a good plan, Khan was executing it well, and then he got caught with a monster shot. He got that little bit careless in the sixth, and Canelo made him pay for it. Alvarez had also been setting him up for something big, cutting off the ring a little better, taking Amir's legs from him with body shots along the way.
It's not a surprise outcome, but it's still a Knockout of the Year contender, and given the level of this fight and how many people are seeing it and will be talking about it, is probably the clubhouse leader at this point.
