Artie Pellulo of Banner Promotions, one of Demetrius Andrade’s promoters, says that the 154-pound standout is looking for a title fight next, and that he’ll ask Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza if a fight between Andrade and WBA titleholder Erislandy Lara would be a good fit for the network.
From ESPN.com:
"I’m going to ask Stephen if he is interested in doing a fight between Demetrius and (world titleholder) Erislandy Lara," Pelullo told ESPN.com. "Lara and him would be a great fight and the winner of Lara and Andrade could then fight the winner of (Jermell) Charlo and (Charles) Hatley in a unification fight, which would be even bigger than just Demetrius fighting Charlo for his title.
"Demetrius wants a title fight next and I want to get it for him, so this was my thought. Now I have to see if it’s something we can do."
Andrade (23-0, 16 KO) dominated and stopped Willie Nelson on June 11 in a Showtime co-feature bout, while Lara (23-2-2, 13 KO) is coming off of a decision win over Vanes Martirosyan on May 21, a Showtime main event.
There’s good reason to argue that they’re the top two fighters at 154 pounds right now, and that a fight between the two could crown a true leader in the junior middleweight ranks.
If this one does happen, who do you like to win?
