Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward are scheduled to meet on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view, provided they win their interim bouts this summer, which has been known for a while. But now the fight officially has a venue, as the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has been requested by Main Events, which is a formality that will go through a NSAC meeting on Tuesday.
Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KO) will face Isaac Chilemba in a July 11 fight in Russia, which HBO will air on same-day tape delay on a Monday night. Kovalev last fought on January 30, completely obliterating Jean Pascal in a rematch in Montreal.
Ward (29-0, 15 KO) fought for the first time since 2013 in June 2015, beating Paul Smith quite easily, and was last in action on March 26, beating Sullivan Barrera impressively in Oakland. He’s been trying to get a fight settled for July, too, but has yet to finalize anything. The fight with Kovalev would be Ward’s first time in Las Vegas.
