I said we'd let you guys know if any of the local favorites on Matchroom's upcoming Leeds card got decent opponents; lo and behold, that is indeed the case for at least one of them, as Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell is set to face former super featherweight champion Argenis Mendez.
Eddie Hearn broke the news earlier today.
Delighted to announce that @luke11campbell will face former 130lb King @Argenis__Mendez at Leeds Arena on July 30-real fight on packed card!

Campbell (13-1, 11 KO) suffered a surprise upset loss to Yvan Mendy last December, then thrashed Gary Sykes three months later in a get-well fight. Despite Mendez's (23-4-1, 12 KO) recent struggles, including a knockout loss to Robert Easter on PBC, he's likely Campbell's stiffest test to date besides the aforementioned Mendy.
That show's main event pits Josh Warrington against Patrick Hyland, while Tyrone Nurse faces Tommy Coyle and Gamal Yafai takes on Josh Wale.
