This jam-packed boxing weekend began in earnest last night with multiple shows around the nation. Our own Scott Christ covered the near-robbery on Spike while the folks at DiBella Entertainment and Golden Boy have writeups of two other significant cards.
L.A. Fight Club saw both A-sides pick up stoppage wins as expected. Ronny Rios (26-1, 11 KO) bulldozed the well-past-it Efrain Esquivias (17-5-1, 10 KO), the first stoppage loss of the latter's career, while Zachary Ochoa (15-0, 7 KO) put 695th-ranked super lightweight Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-4-1, 6 KO) to sleep in eight.
Over at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, Richar Abril (20-3-1, 8 KO) returned to action after nearly two years away with a competitive decision over fellow spoiler Jerry Belmontes (21-9, 6 KO). The Cuban had struggled with illness and injury since a 2014 win over then-unbeaten Edis Tatli, losing his WBA title due to inactivity in the process. In addition, Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KO) continued his comeback with a rapid knockout of Jason Davis (13-12-2, 4 KO).
Oh, and Mike Lee won again. You remember Mike Lee, right?
On the international scene, Billy Dib (41-4, 23 KO) won the IBF Australasian title, which according to BoxRec did not exist until Dib won it, with a decision over Pharanpetch Tor Buamas (17-1, 14 KO). Buamas' blatantly Thai record included four straight fights against sub-.500 opposition coming into the bout.
There's plenty more boxing going on today and Bad Left Hook has you covered.
