Abraham Lopez stayed undefeated tonight with a highly controversial decision over Julian Ramirez in a meeting of featherweight prospects, winning on scores of 97-93, 97-93, and 98-92. BLH had the fight 97-93 for Ramirez, as did HBO's Harold Lederman, and pretty much every social media score I saw was around that, with none for Lopez.
Lopez (21-0-1, 15 KO) didn't fight poorly by any means, and it was a good fight that had a very hot first three rounds, including a blistering second, before the intensity dropped. Ramirez (16-1, 8 KO) seemed to be doing the better work for the most part, though, but when the fight settled down, it was perhaps tougher to split the two. I suppose. I don't know. I can't tell you what the judges saw here, I thought Ramirez won this fight. Lopez's trainer Joel Diaz felt he was losing going into the final round. Turns out the final round didn't much matter either way.
Ramirez landed 241 of 665 (36%) of his total punches, and 50% of his power shots (216/433), while Lopez landed 213 of 618 (34%) total punches and 181 of 471 (38%) of his power shots, according to CompuBox and the HBO broadcast.
How did you score this one? Was this a robbery or just a disagreement?
