Top junior middleweight prospect Erickson Lubin was back in action tonight, beating Ivan Montero over the eight round distance tonight on FOX in Birmingham, Alabama.

Lubin (16-0, 11 KO) faced a tough opponent in Montero (20-2, 8 KO), who gave the 20-year-old prospect some decent looks and some rounds. But Lubin also showed a lot of his substantial talent, outboxing Montero pretty handily over the fight, and clearly winning each round.

Lubin had last fought on June 18, when he stopped Daniel Sandoval in three rounds, so this was a quick turnaround for him, with training before and in between, so he may also have been a little more tired tonight than usual.

The hope is that by the end of 2016, Lubin will face a serious gatekeeper at the least, but there’s no huge rush with him. He’s young, he’s staying active, and he’s learning, which is all you can ask of a fighter in his position.
