In this video interview with FightHype, trainer Freddie Roach gives his insights on what a Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight would look like, Golovkin taking on Kell Brook in the meantime, and liking a fight between Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs. Here's what he had to say.
Freddie Roach on what he thinks about a fight between Gennady Golovkin and Chris Eubank Jr:
"Eubank is okay but he's not even close to what his father was. He's not that good. Eubank gets killed in that fight. I'm not a big fan of Eubank. Eubank Sr. was a good fighter, tough guy, had a lot of balls. I fought against him a couple times, tough guy. But his son - not even close."
On if he would have preferred to see Golovkin fight an established middleweight instead of Kell Brook:
"The thing is, you have to take into consideration, he's the middleweight champion. Kell Brook offered to go up in weight, he's gonna be a middleweight now, it's really not Triple G's fault. I mean the thing is, what happened to the mandatory? Where's the mandatories and stuff like that? Why aren't these officials pushing the mandatory so the best have to fight the best at some point? It just doesn't seem to happen..."
On a potential fight between Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs:
"Daniel Jacobs, who's he?...Oh, Jacobs, the kid with cancer. Oh I like him, he's not a bad kid, he's trained here before. Yeah, I'm sorry. I forgot who he was for a second...I like that, that's a good fight. That's a real fight. He's a good boxer also. He can punch a little bit but he's a better boxer than people realize, I feel. He had a great amatuer career too. That's a real fight, I like that.
