Antonio Margarito's second comeback fight of 2016 is now officially set for August 13 in Rosarito, Mexico, where he'll face Ramon Alvarez, the older brother of Canelo, in a 10-round junior middleweight main event. The fight had previously been set for a pair of July dates.
Margarito (39-8, 27 KO) returned from an absence of over four years with a win on March 5 against Jorge Paez Jr. It was an exciting, action-packed fight, but the 38-year-old Margarito certainly looked his age, as well as rusty. He says he's feeling sharper for this upcoming bout.
Alvarez (23-4-2, 15 KO) is a fringe contender at best, who has gone unbeaten in his last 10 fights, nine wins and a no-contest. He's beaten the likes of Omar Chavez, Vivian Harris, Ben Tackie, and James Winchester during that streak. The 29-year-old is the level of opponent Margarito should be fighting, if indeed Margarito should be fighting at all, which is questionable for various reasons.
Unbeaten bantamweight Luis Nery (19-0, 13 KO) will also be featured on the card against an opponent to be named.
