The cruiserweight division continues to offer the best matchmaking in the sport. Former WBO emperor and current IBO champion Marco Huck will make his first title defense on September 24th, taking on recent IBF title challenger Ovill McKenzie in Frankfurt.
Huck (39-3-1, 27 KO), one fight away from breaking Johnny Nelson’s record of thirteen consecutive title defenses, fell to Polish slugger Krzysztof Glowacki last August in one of the year’s best fights. He returned to action six months later against longtime rival Ola Afolabi, whom he stopped for the first time in a rough-and-tumble affair to earn the IBO belt.
McKenzie (25-12-1, 13 KO) brought a four-fight winning streak and the BBBofC title into his title bout with Victor Ramirez. Despite a strong performance in the latter’s native Argentina, "The Upsetter" had to settle for a draw. It’s certainly nice to see him get another crack at a belt, even if he has to do it in hostile territory once again.
