The possibly-awaited rematch between Danny Jacobs and Sergio Mora, originally set for this weekend’s Santa Cruz vs. Frampton undercard, will headline its own PBC show on September 9th according to The Ring’s sources. The much more interesting co-feature pits Robert Easter Jr. against Richard Commey for the vacant IBF lightweight title, then we get right back to "meh" territory with Travis Kauffman vs. TBA.
Jacobs (31-1, 28 KO) has won eleven straight since getting flattened by Dmitry Pirog in 2010, all by knockout, but really ought to be building off of his first-round stoppage of Peter Quillin instead of facing Mora (28-4-2, 9 KO) again. Sure, there’s some unfinished business considering that Mora scored a knockdown of his own before busting an ankle as he went down, but "The Latin Snake" is just not a good opponent for a world champion.
Not like, say, the smiley Kazakh who owns the Super version of Jacobs’ WBA title.
Easter Jr. vs. Commey is an excellent matchup between unbeaten fighters, at least, and the Reading, Pennsylvania fans should enjoy local boy Kauffman against whomever. Anyone got anything better to do on a Friday evening?
