WBA Super Featherweight Champion Jason Sosa, previously ordered by WBA to face Super Champion Jezreel Corrales, has received permission from the sanctioning body to face Floyd Mayweather protégé Gervonta Davis in his next bout.

Nothing is yet official, but the organizers are reportedly targeting October 22nd. Dan Rafael reports that Las Vegas could be the destination while BoxRec has it listed as Davis’ hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.

The winner is still expected to face Corrales.

Davis (16-0, 15 KO) certainly looks like he has the goods, but Sosa (19-1-4, 15 KO) is a huge step up. The champ knocked out Javier Fortuna his last time out and went ten rounds with Nicholas Walters before that. Davis, meanwhile, just fought a guy who was 2-6 in his previous eight and his only notable win is a shot-to-pieces Cristobal Cruz who’d won just one fight since 2009.

If "Tank" does manage to put away a guy who stood up to that kind of firepower, though, it’ll be a damn impressive feather in his cap. Think he’s got what it takes?
