In this video interview with FightHype.com, boxer/commentator Paulie Malignaggi talks about why Kell Brook at least has a chance to pull off an upset over Gennady Golovkin. Here's what he had to say.
"I think Kell has a chance...Golovkin positions himself in front of you all the time, he's cutting the ring off on you. So besides bringing physical pressure he's mentally pressuring you and he makes you panic and he forces mistakes. Golovkin, though, cuts off the ring and presents himself in front of you but he never moves his head. Against a sharp puncher like Brook maybe that can cost him. Maybe Brook can land some shots. Is it going to effect him? I don't know because, again, Golovkin pressuring you, cutting the ring off, he doesn't get wild. He cuts the ring off, positions you, and tags you with hard shots.
"I don't know if Brook is going to be able to take them but at the same time, if [Golovkin] does it without moving his head Brook is also a sharp enough fighter himself where he's going to be landing. So the thing is there's going to be opportunities for Kell, but I don't know if he can take the thunder that Golovkin brings."
Then, when asked about rumors of a potential Miguel Cotto-Yuriokis Gamboa fight (which is another pretty ridiculous size mismatch -- something that has become all the rage lately), Malignaggi shares these thoughts:
"Yeah, [Gamboa's] too small. That's just another one of those things that you wouldn't see if there was random drug testing. I don't know what's going on. I know Gamboa has been caught with that laboratory in Miami a couple years ago...I don't even want to get into that, I don't want to assume anything but, it's weird."
