Rumors are picking up that Floyd Mayweather has started training for potential return to boxing after he released the following video on social media.
In an effort of full disclosure, I actually saw this a couple weeks ago but pretty much ignored it as I thought it was just some old video footage. Apparently it's not, though, which already has fighters angling for position in a possible 50th fight for Mayweather.
Naturally, we know that Amir Khan is still one of those people, with him saying that he's heard Floyd is back in full training mode and telling WBN:
"I still believe a fight between me and him would be very exciting and a massive event, and even though I lost against Canelo, there were a lot of positives to take away from that fight.
"The way I fought the first four or five rounds has given me the confidence to beat anyone out there."
And now even trainer Joe Gallagher is going on record saying that if his fighter Liam Smith beats Canelo Alvarez, he can expect to get a call from Mayweather.
"All we are thinking about is Saul Alvarez but if we pull this off on Saturday then for the next fight, I'd expect a call from Floyd Mayweather.
"Floyd will be sat there watching and think: 'There's only two people who have beaten Alvarez. One's me and one's Liam Smith so I'll give him a date for fight No 50 next year."
By most firsthand accounts, though, Floyd Mayweather is said to be happily retired with no intention of returning. But if he is in fact legitimately training, that would suggest otherwise.
