Canelo Alvarez and Liam Smith both made weight for tomorrow night's WBO junior middleweight title bout on HBO pay-per-view (U.S.) and BoxNation (U.K.), coming in at the 154-pound limit on both sides.
Smith (23-0-1, 13 KO) is the underdog, but also the defending titleholder. He's making his third defense of the belt he won last fall. Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KO) is fighting at junior middleweight officially for the first time since 2013, when he lost to Floyd Mayweather with a 152-pound catchweight. In his recent fights, Alvarez has worked with a 155-pound catchweight.
On the undercard, middleweights Gabriel Rosado and Willie Monroe Jr both made weight, with Rosado coming in at 159¼ and Monroe at 158¾. Rosado shoved Monroe after the two weighed in, which was quickly broken up.
Joseph Diaz Jr weighed in at 125½ for his fight with Andrew Cancio, who came in a bit heavy at 126¼, but made 126 after stripping down. In a rare occurrence, his team dropped the towel used to cover him, so Cancio has officially flashed a crowd at AT&T Stadium. That's something for the scrapbook.
The pay-per-view opener will feature Diego De La Hoya against Luis Orlando del Valle in a super bantamweight bout. Both fighters weighed in at 121¾.
