Diego De La Hoya got tonight’s Canelo-Smith pay-per-view off to a good start for the Golden Boy Promotions squad, routing Luis Orlando Del Valle in a 10-round super bantamweight bout, winning on scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 100-90.
Bad Left Hook had the fight 99-91 for De La Hoya, who improves to 16-0 (9 KO). The cousin of Oscar De La Hoya, who celebrated his 22nd birthday just a few weeks ago, looked strong and solid in this fight, which was a step up bout for him.
It was a fairly routine night overall for Diego, who landed 152 of 474 (32%) total punches compared to a paltry 91 of 545 (17%) for Del Valle, a former prospect who drops to 22-3 (16 KO), seeing his four-fight win streak come to an end.
De La Hoya out-jabbed Del Valle, 43-18, and landed 39% (109/277) of his power punches, with Del Valle at 19% (73/391).
