The super featherweight division continues to be awesome.
Fresh off the announcement that Orlando Salido and Takashi Miura are deep in negotiations, Dan Rafael reports that WBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko will take on Nicholas Walters on November 26th in his first title defense. HBO will carry the bout, which takes place at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Walters had previously turned down a $550,000 offer to face Lomachenko in March.
Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KO) made the move to 130 in June, demolishing Roman Martinez to earn his second title in two weight classes. He had defended his featherweight belt, earned against Gary Russell Jr. in 2014, three times prior.
Walters (26-0-1, 21 KO) lost his WBA featherweight title on the scales against Miguel Marriaga, forcing him up to super featherweight. In his first bout at the weight, he appeared to handily dominate Jason Sosa but was forced to settle for a draw.
Considering Sosa just knocked out Javier Fortuna, it’s a solid feather in his cap.
This is among the best fights that could be made in the division, a clash between tremendously talented fighters with a flair for impressive stoppages. Can’t wait.
