Top Rank promoter Bob Arum talks to FightHype about how the Lomachenko-Walters fight finally came together after the last round of negotiations fell through. Here's what he had to say!
Bob Arum on how Lomachenko-Walters was officially agreed upon this time:
"What changed now is Nicholas Walters agreed to the purse we were offering, which was slightly more than we did last time, but not what he was demanding when the fight couldn't be made...
"Nicholas Walters is a hell of a fighter, I think Lomachenko may be the best fighter in the world - I mean he's a wonderful, wonderful technician who really excites the crowd with his punching power. I love the fight, I love the fight. It's what people want - competitive fights."
On any concerns about over-saturating the market by holding the fight in November along with two other big cards:
"Las Vegas is unlike any other place in the country. In Los Angeles you can over-saturate. In New York you can over-saturate. In Las Vegas you don't over-saturate because the people in Las Vegas Nov. 5 weekend are different from the people who will be in Las Vegas Nov. 26. Las Vegas is a tourist destination so therefore you're not dealing with residents who live in a particular place - that can get over-saturated..."
