Good news, fans. A big welterweight title unification between Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia will be aired live on CBS on March 4th according to RingTV. This is pretty big news for a sport that has been flooded with ho-hum PPV fights over the last year or so. Now we finally get a legitimate, highly-touted fight for free! One that will assuredly gain broad exposure on network television.
Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) who holds the WBA welterweight title will be putting his belt on the line when he takes on WBC titlist Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
It’s a compelling fight between two young champions in their prime — which unfortunately isn’t the norm — but will most likely crown the top dog of a heralded 147lb division. And the fact that such a good match-up between two relevant names in a fight that will be easily accessible to the public at large bodes well for the sport of boxing.
Thurman-Garcia will be formally announced at a kick-off press conference scheduled for today. We’ll have coverage of that for you as soon as it becomes available.
In the meantime, who ya got? Thurman or Garcia?
