The WBO has announced that they’ve ordered a purse bid for a heavyweight title fight between New Zealand’s Joseph Parker and the United Kingdom’s Hughie Fury, setting the bid for February 1.
The minimum bid for the fight is $1 million. There is a chance that the sides could make a deal before then, but if they don’t, the leading contenders would obviously be Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, and Parker’s co-promoters at Top Rank and Duco Events.
Parker (22-0, 18 KO) won the vacant belt in December in Auckland, beating Andy Ruiz Jr in a competitive fight that went the 12-round distance. Fury (20-0, 10 KO) would be taking a fairly big step up in competition from the likes of Dominick Guinn and Fred Kassi, but the 22-year-old is big, young (22), and talented, and Parker is hardly an unbeatable champion at this stage in his career. At 25, Parker would, in a rare occasion, be the older man in a fight.
If this fight does happen, who do you like to win it, and does location or who promotes the fight tip the scales for you?
