Mayweather, Broner take sides in Chris Brown-Soulja Boy beef

Yes, this is actually a thing...

So, a big celebrity boxing match is materializing right in front of our eyes, and some of boxing’s biggest names have quickly jumped on board to take sides. I’ll spare the entirety of the ridiculous backstory, but a fight between R&B sensation Chris Brown and rapper/producer Soulja Boy is gearing up for March.

The beef between the two music artists was born online through a social media exchange (naturally), and quickly escalated to into what is now being set up to be a real-life fight. Stars such as Floyd Mayweather, Adrien Broner, and 50 Cent have all instigated the quarrel by deciding to put some money up to promote a celebrity boxing match between the two musicians. Floyd Mayweather will be training Soulja Boy for what’s billed as pay-per-view fight, while Adrien Broner will be leading Chris Brown.

Me and my trainer/big brother @floydmayweather #TMT it's official!!

In the video interview at the top between FightHype and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, the executive credits Mayweather as being a genius for getting involved in this promotion. Both artists have huge fan bases (although Brown to a much bigger degree), so the expectation is that celebrity fight will draw a lot of casual interest. That’s the idea, anyway.

Personally I’m little surprised Soulja Boy accepted this deal, and I’m still a little skeptical that this will actually come off because potentially getting knocked out by an R&B singer on national television would be disastrous for his supposed “street cred.” And from what I hear Chris Brown can actually fight pretty well. Well enough that even Andre Berto said he’ll bet $100,000 on the singer without a moment’s hesitation. Conversely, Soulja Boy’s skills look a little something like this...

Needless to say, Floyd has his work cut out for him. I’ll take Brown by stoppage.
