The November 25th showdown between Sergey Kovalev and Vyacheslav Shabranskyy has picked up a quality addition. ESPN reports that former super featherweight champion Jason Sosa is officially set to take on recent title challenger Robinson Castellanos on HBO.
The winner will be in line to face the winner of this weekend’s Jezreel Corrales-Albert Machado WBA title fight or Orlando Salido’s December 9th WBC title bid against Miguel Berchelt.
Sosa (20-2-4, 15 KO) has not fought since his April thrashing at the hands of Vasyl Lomachenko in what was the second defense of the WBA title he won by knocking out Javier Fortuna last year. He’s exactly the sort of gutsy, powerful-yet-vulnerable fighter to produce a slobberknocker with Castellanos (24-13, 14 KO), who went life-and-death with Corrales earlier this year before losing a contentious technical decision.
Looks like a fun evening of fights from beginning to end.
