Former welterweight titleholder Kell Brook has been out of action since May, losing his IBF title to Errol Spence in a fun fight. But while it may have been fun for the fans, it wasn’t so much fun for Brook, who on top of losing his belt, also had two different eye sockets broken in back-to-back fights.
Both injuries required surgeries to repair the damage, but it also raised some questions about Brook’s career and whether or not he can stand up to the physical rigors of the sport any longer.
Well, despite any uncertainty about Brook’s future, Brook says he’s not done with boxing just yet, although he does admit he doesn’t know exactly where he’ll go from here, telling the Sheffield Star:
“I will be fighting again, but just not this year” he said.
“I know I will have to push myself to get back in there but I still want to be a champion.
“As for which weight, I’m not 100% on that. It is well known how hard it is for me to get down to welterweight but if the right fight is there...”
“I know I have much more to give.
The part about ‘the right fight’ would seem to be an allusion to Amir Khan, who Brook would love to get his hands on for a pretty big fight in the UK. That said, Khan hasn’t been keen on making that fight a reality in recent years, and one has to wonder if it ever comes together (I certainly wouldn’t bet on it at this point).
But tell me, fans, who would you most like to see Kell Brook take on next, if not Khan?
