Jim Lampley: Mayweather ‘created a marvelous scam,’ threw rounds against McGregor

Jim Lampley has little patience for the entire Mayweather-McGregor saga.

With Floyd Mayweather recently posting video of himself training, and giving the idea that maybe, just maybe, he’s not actually retired from active competition just yet, TMZ caught up with HBO Sports’ Jim Lampley, who blasted Mayweather’s “scam” fight against Conor McGregor.

"Why should he retire? He created a marvelous scam with this whole thing. He allowed Conor to quote 'win' three rounds so that the whole global MMA wish community could have something to latch on to. I think there's a decent chance there are enough suckers out there Floyd could maybe make another $150 million, why not?”

Lampley said Mayweather “obviously” threw the first three rounds, then laughed off any idea that Floyd would take any “risk” if he were to return to a boxing ring, and indicated that he figures Mayweather will rematch McGregor:

“Why else is he putting out videos of him working out? Why did he allow Conor McGregor to ‘win’ three rounds? Why did the whole thing last 10 rounds, et cetera? It’s all a set up.”
