I’ve got bad news and good news again.
The bad news is that we won’t be getting a rematch between Orlando Salido and Francisco Vargas after all. Salido will instead fight veteran Mickey Roman, with Tevin Farmer vs. Kenichi Ogawa as the co-feature and Vargas reportedly facing Stephen Smith to complete the HBO tripleheader.
The good news? You won’t feel as bad about missing this card in favor of Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Roman (57-12, 44 KO), only 31 despite almost 70 pro fights, is 19-1, 16 KO in his last twenty, losing only to Takashi Miura in a terrific slugfest. Salido can drag a great fight out of just about anyone, but Roman in particular should offer at least a shadow of Salido-Vargas’ transcendent brutality.
In addition to the main event, Farmer-Ogawa is a solid fight and Vargas is always fun; worth a DVR, at the very least
