Lightweight prospect Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez scored an eight-round unanimous decision win over former super featherweight titleholder Gamaliel Diaz on Friday night in Los Angeles, picking up the victory on scores of 79-72, 79-72, and 76-75.

Gonzalez (18-1, 15 KO) won his second straight following a knockout loss to Romero Duno in March of this year.

"A win is a win, and this was a difficult fight," said Gonzalez, 21, of Buena Park, California. "We knew watching the tapes that he'd be a more experienced, slightly dirty fighter. But we weren't expecting him to be that dirty with all the headbutting and hitting to the back of the head. I want my next fight to be a ten-rounder."

Diaz (40-18-3, 19 KO) was docked a point in the eighth round for holding and hitting, and feels he was robbed in the decision.

"I take comfort in one of the judges' scores because the fight was close," said the 36-year-old Diaz. "Being in the game for so long, I know when I win. It's always difficult coming into the house of another boxer. Either way, I'm a professional, and I will take this loss. This isn't the first time I've been robbed."

It’s Diaz’s third straight loss, and seventh in his last eight fights.

In the co-feature, 23-year-old featherweight prospect Edgar Valerio improved to 12-0 (7 KO) with a second round knockout of Martin Cardona (22-9, 14 KO).

Cardona was down twice in the first round, and again in the second, with the count waived.
