Spittin' With The Slash- Session 15 Answers

Busy week, Slasherinos. Lots of Questions. Let's not waste time.

Slacker 2, Worlds Laziest Fat Burner wants to know:

how many welters are ahead of floyd on the all time best list?

The answer is at least 5. And I'm sure that some real boxing historians could rattle off at least twice that number. But my semi-educated ass alone can tell you that there's no way Floyd gets within sniffing distance of Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran or Henry Armstrong. I think Floyd did himself a huge disservice by waiting so long to make the Pacquiao fight. He robbed himself of the kind of peak skill match up with an elite rival that would let him step onto the same kind of hallowed ground as the true all time greats. Leonard vs Hearns/Duran. Robinson vs LaMotta. You can't make the top of the heap without those kinds of fights.

Ironlung 237 is here for financial advice:

buy or sell?

big baby will become a heavyweight world champ before he retires

luis arias beats danny jacobs this upcoming weekend

manny pacquiao fights again

amir khan and kell brooks fight is made

Big Baby- Buy. This is the Alphabet Soup era. He'll snag something eventually. At the bare minimum, he'll snag a vacant title after somebody balks at a mandatory.

Luis Arias- Buy, but be prepared to lose your money, It's strictly a gut call, but I think Jacobs is going to experience some kind of hangover after the GGG fight. Arias is going to squeak this one out after Jacobs is too reluctant to engage.

Manny Pacquiao- Sell. I think Manny may have finally lost his taste for the boxing business. I think we've seen him for the last time.

Amir Khan and Kell Brook- Buy, but you'll get very little for your money. It's gonna be like a low-rent MayPac that happens long after it should have. That fight happens when Khan and Brook are both looking to cash out.

Bonkers has a pretty reasonable query:

Who is one boxer who you don't get the general dislike for? And his or her inverse…some generally liked who you don’t get?

I don't understand the hate for Shawn Porter. He's a little sloppy sure, but his fights are action packed and the guy has a mile of heart. Porter's never ducked anybody and he tries his damnedest to be active instead of sitting around and waiting for a big fight to drop into his lap. He's everything we ask for in a pro boxer but he gets so much crap just because people don't like his style. I just don't get it.

On the flip side, I don't understand the appeal of Mikey Garcia. People talk about him like he's Hermes and Hercules rolled into one and I just don't see why he's regarded so highly when his best win since 2014 is Adrien Freaking Broner.

Maxiao wants to know:

Best boxing novel? Fat City gets my vote

I've actually never read a boxing novel, but I see you guys included some nice recommendations so thanks for that.

In other news, I'm thinking of renaming this column, "Spittin' (and Readin') With The Slash)

It's a British Invasion this week. Rusty asks:

Does Amir Khan go a full 2 years inactive, or does he get himself back into the ring before Cinco de Mayo 2018? If you believe he fights before then, who would you guess he winds up in the ring with?

I think he stays inactive. He won't fight Brook and he seems adamant about only taking the biggest fights. The only real option is Pacquiao and, like I said, I don't think Manny fights again. Even if he does, at this point saying, "No," to Amir Khan is Bob's favorite after dinner game.

P4pnd is trying to inspire my next book. He asks:

Is there a chance we get BetterBeef v Bivol in "The Fight of the Killer Bees" a new horror novel by Mr. Slash inspired by a great fight

This actually could be possible. They've got similar records and I don't think there's anyone who would derail it with unreasonable demands. This wouldn't surprise me for late 2018.

PlayingtheDevil'sAdvocate asks:

Do you think Stevenson would rather fight Alvarez or Andre Ward.

Alvarez. Alvarez by a mile and a half. Stevenson would fight Alvarez twice in the same day before he got anywhere near Ward. To put it into perspective, Stevenson spent YEARS hiding from Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward beat him 1.5 times. (He loses a half a point because that first decision was BULLSHIT). Adonis Stevenson would be so scared of Andre Ward, he'd fight a mandatory to avoid him.

And that's it for this week everybody. See ya Monday.
