Heavyweight prospect Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller may not have blown anyone away in his HBO debut, but he got a solid win over durable veteran Mariusz Wach tonight, and Anthony Joshua may be next for him.
Miller improved to 20-0-1 (18 KO) with a ninth round stoppage victory, when the doctor suggested that the referee stop the fight, due to Wach (33-3, 17 KO) quite vocally suffering from a right hand injury, likely a fracture suffered in the middle of the fight.
The 29-year-old “Big Baby” Miller out-landed Wach 204-95 overall, and 156-49 in power shots, including some solid body work, often missing in heavyweight fights of the modern era.
If Miller does face Joshua next, he’s going to be a clear and substantial underdog against the reigning IBF and WBA titleholder, who is coming off of a recent win over Carlos Takam and has bulldozed his way through the division so far. But at the very least, as a stay-busy opponent, Miller does offer some personality and could help sell a fight.
