Lightweight contender Denis Shafikov (38-3-1, 20 KOs) is looking to bounce back into the win column after recently losing a third opportunity at a lightweight world title this summer when he was outpointed by Robert Easter Jr.
Now Shafikov will try to trim down to 130lbs to take on Rene Alvarado (27-8, 19 KOs) on the undercard of HBO’s Dec. 9th card headlined by Orlando Salido and Miguel Roman. The card will also feature a vacant IBF junior lightweight title bout between Tevin Farmer and Kenichi Ogawa as well as another junior lightweight clash between Francisco Vargas and Stephen Smith — so a pretty stacked ordeal.
But, specifically, the Shafikov-Alvarado fight will be televised on HBO Latino following the three other fights mentioned above which will air on HBO proper, according to a RingTV report.
The card in its entirety will feature fighters aligned with K2, Golden Boy, Matchroom, Zanfer, and Lou DiBella, so it’ll be one big boxing melting pot.
