Julian “J-Rock” Williams made it two wins in a row last night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, defeating veteran former titleholder Ishe Smith in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card, aired on Bounce TV.

Williams (24-1-1, 15 KO) had a tougher time than the scores might indicate, as the cagey Smith (29-9, 12 KO) was able to give him some trouble, and especially was able to go to the body against Williams.

Scores for the fight were 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91.

Williams, 27, suffered a big KO loss a little under a year ago in a title shot against Jermall Charlo, and returned in June of this year to beat Joshua Conley. The win over Smith gives him some momentum going into 2018.

As for the 39-year-old Smith, he’s 4-4 in his last eight, dating back to 2013, but remains competitive. He’s not out there getting totally blown away, save for a wide 2014 loss to Erislandy Lara, the top fighter in the division.

On the undercard, light heavyweight Lionell Thompson improved to 19-4 (11 KO) with a 10-round decision victory over Earl Newman, who fell to 10-1-1 (7 KO). Scores were 96-92, 97-91, and 97-91.

Also, featherweight prospect Tugstsogt Nyambayar, a former Olympic silver medalist from Mongolia, went to 9-0 (8 KO) to start his pro career, coming off the canvas in the second round to defeat Harmonito de la Torre (19-1, 12 KO) on scores of 78-73, 78-73, and 79-73.
