WBO featherweight titleholder Oscar Valdez (23-0, 19 KOs) has just been scheduled to make his next title defense, as reported by RingTV. The title defense will take place the StubHub Center in Carson, CA on March 10th against an opponent who has yet to be determined, and will air live on ESPN.
In this bout the 26-year-old Valdez will be making the fourth defense of the WBO belt since winning the vacant title back in July 2016. Since then he’s gone on to stop Hiroshige Osawa in 7 rounds and took two decision wins over Miguel Marriaga and Genesis Servania.
And according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who will be putting on the ESPN card, the whole idea is to set up Valdez for a potential fight against Carl Frampton in the coming year — should all go well.
Of course a lot can happen between now and then, but that’s surely a legitimate scrap to put together if everything works out.
