Spence-Peterson: Opening Press Conference

Errol Spence Jr. and Lamont Peterson officially announce their Jan. 20th title fight.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

For those who missed it, check out the full video from yesterday’s opening press conference for Errol Spence’s upcoming IBF welterweight title defense against Lamont Peterson, scheduled for Jan. 20 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Spence, 27, is arguably the most feared fighter in the welterweight division at this point in time, and says he had a number of top fighters pass on offers to face him before landing this fight with Peterson. Spence will obviously be the heavy favorite to win the fight, and for good reason, but Peterson is certainly a capable opponent who always comes to fight.

Check out the footage above, courtesy of FightHub TV, to see the fighters express their mutual respect for each other — admitting they’re friends outside of the ring — while explicitly stating that once the bell rings all that will go out of the window. Should Spence emerge victorious in what will be his first title defense, he says he hopes to get the other top names in with him in the coming year.
